Happy New Year!

We would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year! We hope to do lots more to make our charity stronger in the new year. We just started our work towards helping children in Brazil and our aim is to build up efforts and send a good amount of help for the Institution "Jardim das Oliveiras" next Christmas.
Our next fundraising event will be the Children's Market in Northop Hall in February.

About us
The spiritism Group Jardim das Oliveiras is a non-profit organisation with a scientific, philosophic and religious character according to the spiritism doctrine. The group is a provider of social welfare, education and culture. It is organised and registered according to the Brazilian law, its number is 05.055.272/0001-02. The institution has no limits for membership (anybody can be a member of the group) and it works in Belém/Para with indefinite duration.
Our aims:
a) Promoting of social welfare by fighting poverty through integrated actions to protect the family, assuring that children, young people, adults and the elderly have a good family and community life;
b) Making people feel respected as a citizen, avoing any humiliating situation;
c) Looking for the improvement of life quality through public and private partnerships and also through our productive and management capacity, also preserving the environment (nature and community);
d) Equal rights procedures, working without any kind of discrimination.

   
Services

Basic needs support and social work Program
Target audience: Families that are vulnerable to social problems. Poor families that live in Castanheira and Guanabara districts, in the outskirts of Belém, Pará state, Brazil.
Annual goal: Attending 100 families, including all its members.
This program is the main entrance to the Assistance Service done by the institution. We helped 83 families, 523 people last year - adults, young people and children. The institution works from Monday to Friday (8am to 5pm).
We have a project called Projeto Direito de Cidadania (Citizen rights project). Our aim is to help people to have their rights as citizens. They must know their rights and responsibilities in society. We make sure people will manage their own social inclusion. We monitor all families in each and every development/improvement they have in their lives.

Partnership with the Federal Government Family scholarship Program. Monthly meetings for the CRAS (Social Assistance Reference Centre) workers, including the population of the districts surrounding the Institution.



Education for life Program: from learning to living
Target audience: Children and adolescents that are members of the families participating in our Basic needs support and social work Program. Age range: 4 to 14 years old.
Annual goal: 200 children.
This program offers children and young people the opportunity of signifcant learning that promotes changes in their life quality. We had 232 participants in 2013. It works from Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
The Education for life program involves 2 projects:
DCAE (desenvolvimento criativo e apoio escolar) - creative development and educational support. It develops educational actions that give special attention to cognitive, social and psychomotor dimensions of education. This project enables actions that contribute to the formation of the integral human being (full potential citizens) and prevents children and adolescents from being vulnerable to crime in extremely violent districts.
Primary Education Project in partnership with SEMEC (Secretaria Municipal de Educação e Cultura) Education and Culture Municipal Office, we offer full time formal education to children from 4 to 5 years old. It works from Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm.
The program actions in 2013:
132 CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS ATTENDED
Activities: arts and recreation; maths; Portuguese; English; music with flute and guitar lessons; play area; choir; reading; parents, teachers and coordinators  meetings.

Projects: Human values; Kindness generates kindness; Integral human being/citizen and  Society looking for peace.

Workshops: Friendship circle; Recycled toys; Life in society values; June party costumes and card making.

Educational Workshops: The environment; Oral health; Sexuality Adolescence and Drugs.

Events: Pedagogy week I, Mother's Day, Native Indian's Day, Values Project, June Party, Environment celebration, Social education week, Training with the arts team, Folklore Events, Happy garden optical health check, Maths week II, The Garden staff, Teacher's Day, Celebration of the Project Peace and kindness, Christmas celebration.

 Trips: Utinga Park, Benevides, Cinépolis, Choir presentation at Batista Campos square, Choir presentation at Park Shopping Centre and Portugal shops.


Health and life Program
Target audience: Participants of our Basic needs support and social work Program and the community in general.
Annual goal: 100% of the families attended through our services.
We provide basic outpatient medical assistance and dental care and also psychological assistance. All our services are offered by volunteers. All families were attended in 2013. It works from Monday to Friday at different times of the day, according to appointments made.
The program actions in 2013:

General practice, cardiology, homeopathy, nose, ear and throat, paediatrics and ophthalmology.

Work and life Program
Target audience: Participants of our Basic needs support and social work Program and the community in general.
Annual goal: 100% of the families attended through our services.
We support people to achieve work and income offering various courses in different areas. We support the families to be self sufficient. We expand opportunities for professional inclusion in the citizen's context. Only 50% of the families were involved in the program. It works from Monday to Friday at different times of the day.
The program actions in 2013:
152 PEOPLE ATTENDED
Courses: Stockman, Cashier, Receptionist, Administrative assistant, Professional Qualification (Building skills).
